Railway revenue earnings up 10.87 per cent

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Sustaining its growth momentum, the Railways earned Rs. 32572.29 crore during the first six months (April-September) of the current fiscal compared to Rs. 29379.56 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.87 per cent.

The goods earnings went up from Rs. 19698.71 crore to Rs.

21752.35 crore during the period, showing an increase of 10.43 per cent, a ministry official said today.

In the passenger segment also, the Railways' performance improved vastly with an earning of Rs. 9510.18 crore during the first six months of the FY 2007-08 as compared to Rs. 8456.20 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.46 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching and sundry went up to Rs 1309.76 crore as compared to Rs 1224.65 crore, marking an increase of 6.95 per cent.

The total approximate number of passengers booked during April-September this year were 3306.70 million compared to 3132.71 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.55 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during the period were 1807.65 million and 1499.05 million compared to 1719.02 million and 1295.21 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.16 per cent and 6.04 per cent respectively.
