New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Mr Rahul Gandhi, the newly-appointed AICC General Secretary, today visited the party's headquarters at 24 Akbar Road and spent nearly two hours.

Mr Gandhi sat in his office, adjacent to the room of his mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and did some party work and later went around the complex, meeting all the office bearers present and making enquiries about their activities.

He also went to the media room at the AICC and told the journalists present there that he was just taking a look and having a feel of the place.

Among those present at the AICC was its Treasurer Motilal Vora, whose office is on the other side of Ms Gandhi's room which faces the main entrance.

Mr Gandhi, who has been made in charge of the party's frontal organisations, the Youth Congress and the NSUI, has met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh twice, convincing Dr Singh on the need for extending the National Rural Employment Gurantee Programme (NREGP) to the entire country.

The Congress President had on Saturday ruled out any easy passage to the top, either in the party or the government, to her son and made it clear that he would have to work hard his way up.

Ms Gandhi had also indicated that an expansion and reshuffle of the Manmohan Singh government was on the cards, stating that an exercise would be carried out soon to entrust youth leaders of the party with responsible official responsibilities.
