Fatehgarh Sahib, Oct 15 (UNI) Police here have booked a man who allegedly had claimed links with Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and cheated some people promising them jobs in the Railways.

According to police, Manjit Singh, a resident of village Mandofal of this district, had taken money from some people claiming that he knew some officials who were ''close'' to the Minister and could get them jobs in the Railways.

A case was registered against him on the complaint of Sirhind resident Avtar Singh, who claimed that Manjit had forged relationship with him claiming to be a Railway official.

He told Avtar that the Railway department had advertised some posts and if he could pay Rs 1 lakh, his son could get a job.

Avtar claimed that he paid Manjit Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 in instalments after filling a form brought by Manjit, who gave an affidavit that his money would be returned if his son did not get the job.

He claimed that a Mandofal village resident had also given Rs 25,000 to Manjit on the promise of a job to the villager's son.

However, later he came to know from a relative of Manjit that he was a fraud. When confronted, Manjit assured him to return his money but did not do so.

At last, Avtar complained to Fatehgarh Sahib SSP who directed the Economic Offence Wing to investigate the case.

Police is now conducting raids to nab Manjit, who is on a run.
