Five killed, equal number seriously injured in road accident

Palani, Oct 15 (UNI) Five people were killed and an equal number seriously injured when a car in which they were travelling collied head-on with a bus at Thakkama Naickan Patti, near here, today.

Police said a group of Muslim devotees hailing from Ernakulam district in Kerala were on their way to Erwadi Dargah at Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu, while the bus was proceeding to Udumalpet from here when the incident look place.

Police officials rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, who were trapped in the mangled remains of the car and admitted them to the Government Hospital here.

The deceased were identified as Jakir(27), Shajahan(25), Abu Baker(22), Aziz(24) and Sadiq(25). While four of them were killed on the spot, Sadiq succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Three passengers in the car and two in the bus were injured, police added.

Vehicular traffic was disrupted on the Palani-Pollachi road due to the accident. Traffic was, however, restored after a few hours.
