ISMAILIA, Egypt, Oct 15 (Reuters) Egyptian police shot and wounded two Turkish teenagers on the border with Israel today who were trying to cross into the Jewish state to look for work, Egyptian security sources said.

The sources said the teenagers, aged 14 and 15, were trying to cross a barbed wire fence along with their father. Egyptian police ordered them to stop, then opened fire when they failed to comply, wounding the two teens.

In a separate incident, Egyptian police arrested a Sudanese woman who was trying to cross the border into Israel along with her two children, aged 2 and 8, the sources said.

The Sinai peninsula is the main conduit for smugglers trying to take migrants -- mainly Africans including refugees from Sudan's Darfur region -- into Israel for work or asylum.

But the Egyptian guards have opened fire at many of them and have killed at least one Sudanese and one Eritrean so far this year as the number of those trying to enter Israel has swelled.
