UP ready to celebrate Durga Puja from Oct 17

Lucknow, Oct 15: The City of Nawabs is all decked up for celebrating Durga Puja starting on Wednesday.

Lucknow has a century old rich tradition of Durga Puja celebrations. The famous Bangali Club here had started organising 'Shardiya Durgotsav' in its precincts almost a century ago. The unifying nature of the festival is exemplified in the Puja revelry, which, usually synonymous with the Bengali community, is also celebrated with non-Bengalis, Sikhs and even Muslims with equal fervour.

People, cutting across all religions, offer prayers during the Saptami, Ashtami and Navami to propitiate Goddess Durga for prosperity and redemption of sins.

Durga Puja is more than a festival in UP, it is a celebration of life, culture, popular customs and traditions. It is a time of reunion and rejuvenation of love, share and care.
