Air Commodore Nair takes over command of 12 Wing Air Force

Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) Air Commodore SRK Nair took over the command of 12 Wing Air Force from Air Commodore M Sud at Air Force station here today.

Air Commodore Nair is an alumnus of 56th course of National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Indian Air Force (IAF) in June 1980. During his meritorious service spanning over 27 years, he has flown close to 7000 hours on various types of aircraft which includes Otter (DHC-3), Dornier 228, Avro (HS-748), AN-32 and IL-76.

Air Cmde Nair is a Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) and has also been an air force examiner on AN-32 and IL-76 aircraft. He was the flight commander of 25 Squadron, when it was twice declared the best transport Squadron and it was under his command that the prestigious 44 Squadron of IAF was adjudged the best transport Squadron.

Before taking over command of 12 Wing Air Force, he was holding the appointment of Director of Operations (Transport) at Air Headquarters. He has also done a stint as Chief Operations Officer of Air Force Station, Sulur in Tamil Nadu.

He was the team leader in the recently concluded Exercise INDRA-07 at Russia and has taken part in many other exercises both within the country and abroad.

During his career, he has several achievements to his credit, one of which is the pioneering flight to the North Pole during which he also established an endurance record on the IL-76 aircraft.

For his outstanding service, Air Cmde Nair has been awarded the coveted Vayu Sena Medal (VM) and Mention in Despatches (MD).

His wife Ms Geethanjali Nair has taken over as the President, Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local) from Ms Sangeeta Sud.
