Islamabad, Oct 14 (UNI) Rejecting media reports about Pakistan planning to initiate action against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, the government today said it has due respect for the judiciary.

''The government honors every decision of the Supreme Court,'' the spokesperson said, adding that the news item was baseless, concocted and extremely malicious.

''We have all the respect for the judiciary and there is no proposal under consideration to redefine the tenure of employment of the Chief Justice. The government cannot even think of any negative step against judiciary,'' he said.

All reports in this connection were based on hypothesis and rumors, he noted.

The government saw no other objective of this propaganda other than a planned attempt to create an impression of disharmony, uncertainty and confusion among the important state institutions, he added.

He said President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had reiterated that the government would respect every decision of the apex court.

''The government fully believes in independence of judiciary and thinks it is indispensable for strengthening democracy and democratic norms in the country,'' he said.

The spokesman advised media to adopt a responsible attitude and avoid self-conceived and hypothetical reporting.
