Bangladesh celebrates Eid al-Fitr tomorrow

Dhaka, Oct 13 (UNI) Bangladesh will celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, tomorrow with customary colour and religious fervour.

The authorities have strengthened security at all Eid congregations to ensure smooth nationwide celebration of the festival.

As many as 6,000 police and elite Rapid Action Battalion will be on guards in the Bangladesh's capital.

The main Eid congregation will be held at the National Eidgah Maidan near the High Court here.

Special diets will be served in hospitals, jails, orphanages, Vagrant Welfare and Destitute Welfare centres.

The Bangladeshi government announced a three-day Eid holiday today. Newspaper offices were also declared closed for four days from yesterday.

Eid al-Fitr is the celebration that comes after a month-long fasting marked by sacrifice and dedication. The Islamic Calendar follows the moon and so each year, the dates are shifted forward by about eleven days in the normal calendar. Ramadan, a movable feast, is the ninth month of the Muslim year, and is followed by Shawal. The first three days of Shawal are called the Eid days.
