UN Myanmar envoy to arrive in Bangkok this weekend

Bangkok, Oct 12 (UNI) UN Secretary General's Special envoy to Myanmar Ibrahim Gambari will arrive in Thailand this weekend for a two-day visit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced here today.

Mr Gambari, who was in Myanmar recently, will call on Thai Foreign Minister Nitya Pibulsonggram on October 15. He's also expected to meet Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, the foreign ministry spokesman said.

The UN envoy will be in Thailand ahead of visiting other key Asian capitals, including New Delhi, in preparation for returning to Myanmar to try to facilitate talks between the military rulers in Naypyitaw and detained democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi.
