Uranium worth Rs 100 crore recovered in Birbhum

Bolpur, Oct 11 (UNI) Uranium worth Rs 100-crore was recovered from inside a bus in Birbhum district today.

Birbhum District Magistrate (DM) Tapan Kumar Som said acting on a tip-off, Customs officials raided a private bus, on its way from Jangipur near Indo-Bangladesh border at Murshidabad district to Barakar at Bardhaman district, and recovered the radioactive metal hidden in a leather bag.

However, the persons carrying the briefcase managed to flee, the DM added.

The Rampurhat Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) also rushed to the spot and had detained the bus driver and conductor for interrogation.

The SDO said the metal had a label ''Made in USA'' with an expiry date of 2023 and added the investigation was on to nab the culprits.
