Sundaram Industries forms JV with US firm

Madurai, Oct 11: Sundaram Industries of the TVS Group, a leading automobile company, and US-based Firestone Industrial Products will form a joint venture for the manufacture and marketing of Air springs in India.

In a release here, Mr R Naresh, Joint Managing Director of the joint venture, said the two industrial establishments proposed to set up a dedicated state-of-the-art greenfield facility here for manufacturing air springs.

The joint venture was aimed at catering to original equipment manufacturers, the Indian Railways and after-market customers, revolutionising travel comfort in the country and taking end-user on a smoother, more pleasurable ride on road or rail, the release said.

This would be significant for the Railways, which was modernising its design of coaches and proposed to introduce high speed trains, it added.

Air springs were highly engineered elastomeric bellows, which provide more advantages over traditional lead and coil springs such as higher load carrying capability, adjustable spring rate and user-friendly height control.
