Indo-American Free Angioplasty and pacemaker workshop
Bangalore, Oct 11 (UNI) In the biggest ever Angioplasty Workshop held in the country, 102 patients underwent successful Angioplasty and stenting procedure from October One to Five at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology (SJIC) here.
SJIC Director C N Manjunath, talking to UNI today said that stents worth Rs 50 lakh and pacemakers worth Rs 15 lakh were given free of cost to these deserving patients. Majority of patients were coolies, poor farmers, slum dwellers, daily wage workers and retired low income pensioners.
He said the Workshop was jointly organised by the Institute and the US based Dr G Subramani from Wisconsin who is running a charitable heart foundation there. The NRI doctor and his team was interested in continuing with this charity programme to the needy patients every year during their annual visit to their home state.
They appreciated the work culture, attitude and professional skill of doctors at SJIC, Dr Manjunath added.
He said 45 per cent of the 102 patients were below 50 years age emphasising the fact on increasing incidence of heart attack and related disease among young middle aged India population even among poor people.
