AI to launch campaign against death penalty

organisation
Amnesty
International
is
to
launch
a
signature
drive
here
tomorrow
as
part
of
its
worldwide
campaign
for
a
ban
on
capital
punishment.
Amnesty International India's Kerala Coordinator P J Josy said the organisation was aiming to collect 25,000 signatures from all over the country and present them to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on October 18.
Describing India, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, as the 'land of ahimsa', he said AI was also mobilising world opinion to persuade the United Nations General Assembly to declare a global moratorium on death penalty.
