Peacock conservation in Bihar
Patna,
Oct
10
2007:
The
peasants
and
farmers
of
a
village
in
Bihar
are
spearheading
a
movement
to
save
the
country's
national
bird,
the
peacock.
About
50
years
ago
Shiv
Kumar
Singh
and
Chandrika
Singh,
residents
of
the
village,
had
bought
a
pair
of
peacocks
from
a
local
fair
and
since
then
their
number
has
increased
to
nearly
200.
Of late, the government has acted on this issue and plans to take some stern steps in order to protect the national bird.
