UP police stations to lodge computerised FIRs

Lucknow, Oct 10: Select police stations in Uttar Pradesh will register computerised first information reports (FIRs) from next week under the centrally-funded Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) project.

CIPA project is a Mission Mode Project (MMP) under e-Governance of the Government of India. The project aims at automation of all functions carried out at the police stations. ''Initially only crime module has been taken up, which means that FIRs would be generated using computers,'' said IG (Personnel) Pravin Singh, who is the project implementation in-charge of the UP police.

Besides 65 Government Railway Police (GRP) police stations, UP has 1371 civil police stations. In phase I of the project, the system of computerised FIRs would be started in 137 police stations from October 16. ''These police stations are in the six districts surrounding Lucknow...the neighbouring districts have been selected for Phase I for greater monitoring,'' Mr Singh told UNI
