MP bypoll: 2 candidates submit papers

Bhopal, Oct 10 (UNI) Independent candidates Prakash and Hutesh submitted their nomination papers today for the October 30 byelection to Balaghat district's Lanji assembly constituency, official sources said.

Today was the fifth day for submitting nomination papers and a total seven sets have been submitted thus far. The bypoll was necessitated by the death of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and former minister Dileep Bhatere. The ruling BJP fielded Mr Bhatere's wife Rajeshwari while the main opposition Congress was yet to declare its candidate.

The last date for submitting nomination papers is October 12.

Scrutiny would take place the following day and October 15 is the last date for withdrawal of candidature. Counting is scheduled for November 3.
