Lucknow, Oct 10 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party today opposed trifurcation of Uttar Pradesh and alleged that Chief Minister Mayawati was misusing government funds for her personal interests.

''BSP is leading the state towards 'Vinash' rather than their claim of 'Vikas' and the government had misused more than Rs 100 crore in yesterday's rally which was held without any purpose'', alleged senior SP leader and former state minister Ashok Bajpai here.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Bajpai charged the Mayawati government was following the 'politics of vendetta' as thousands of fake cases under the Gangster and Goonda Act were registered against the party workers.

''During our regime no political party can blame that we have targeted anyone on political lines'', he claimed.

She was claiming that there was a paucity of funds but still Rs 9000 crore worth projects in the name of Kanshi Ram had been launched. ''Now Mayawti wants Lucknow to be identified as Kanshi Ram Nagar,'' he alleged.

The SP leader also questioned the reason behind spending government funds in the name of Kanshi Ram when neither he was a freedom fighter nor did anything for the development of the state.

Opposing the trifurcation of UP as announced by Ms Mayawati yesterday in the rally, Mr Bajpai said further division of UP will have an adverse impact on the country's unity and integrity.

''SP has always opposed the creation of smaller states and will continue to do so in the future'', he added.

Mr Bajpai made it clear that there was a reserve of Rs 25,000 crore in the state exchequer when BSP came to power in the state but due to misuse of funds, the present government was facing acute shortage of money.
