Musharraf sweeps election


Islamabad, Lahore, Pakistan, Oct. 6 2007: President Pervez Musharraf easily won the presidential election today, with 252 of 257 votes in the National Assembly and the Senate. One of his opponents, a former Supreme Court judge Wajihuddin Ahmed won two votes.

The provincial assemblies returned similar clear margins. Dozens of Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists marched towards the parliament house in support of Musharraf, as he swept the polls.
