Madurai, Oct 9 (UNI) All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) General Secretary Debabrata Biswas today said mid-term Parliamentary elections depended on the Congress' stand on Indo-US Nuclear Deal.
Talking to mediapersions here this morning, Mr Biswas, said ''Congress should realise that its survival at the Centre depends on the Left's support.'' ''The Left's opposition to the nuclear deal was based on principles which cannot be compromised. We will spend even three days to draft a single line decision. But once it is taken, we will not backtrack,'' he said.
''The 123 Agreement will not only influence our nuclear independence but also adversely affect India's economic and foreign policies,'' he asserted.
Criticising AICC President Sonia Gandhi's recent remarks that elements opposed to the country's progress were enemies of the nation, he said it was very unfortunate that she said the strategic partnership with the United States will only be an impetus for the country's development.
He pointed out that sovereignty, foreign policy, economy and education in Iraq and Afghanistan were affected after they established diplomatic relations with the US.
On the Sethu Samudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP), he charged the BJP with playing a double game only to gain political mileage.
Asked about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi's controversial remarks on Lord Ram, he said ''his remarks were unnecessary.'' As people in India follow various cultures and religions, one should not get involved in the issue of faith, he observed.
Mr Biswas urged the Centre to issue coins commemorating Freedom Fighter Muthuramalinga Devar birth centenary.
He also appealed the Tamil Nadu Government to declare Devar Jayanthi Day as a public holiday.
