Agartala, Oct 8: Tripura Women's Commission (TWC) has asked the state government to ensure the proper implementation of Domestic Violence Act (DVA) to contain atrocities on women.

TWC Chairperson Prof Tapati Chakraborty said here today that the commission had passed the recommendations and forwarded to the state government, which were adopted in the workshop on DVA on Saturday last in presence of National Women Commission Member Malini Bhattacharjee.

"Though domestic violence and atrocities on women are a national problem, the nature of the consequences in Tripura is mainly due to dowry or other financial issue and as a result, we suggested the state government to be strict on Dowry Prohibition Act besides, DVA," said Prof Chakraborty.

TWC has been working not only to prevent crimes against women, but also protect the victims of the domestic violence, she said adding that more 200 cases of dowry related crime has been reported to the commission so far in this year.
