PHC takes cognizance of violence against lawyers

Islamabad, Oct 8: Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Tariq Pervaiz has taken suo motto cognizance of the incident of violence against lawyers outside the NWFP assembly on the eve of the October 6 presidential election.

The Chief Justice, taking a serious note of the violence perpetrated on the lawyers outside NWFP Assembly, has summoned Peshawar Police Chief Abdul Majeed Marwat along with the records and sought an explaination from him according to TV news channel.

Several lawers were injured including the PHC Bar President, Abdul Latif Afridi when the protest demonstrations of lawers were attacked by police with the aid of armoured vehicles.

An FIR of this incident had been lodged in the Police Station (East) against Peshawar SSP and DSP. Later, the armoured vehicle was torched by the lawyers.
