HNLC "area commander" surrenders before Army

Shillong, Oct 8 (UNI) An ''area commander'' of a Meghalaya-based banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council militant outfit today surrendered before General Officer Commanding 101 Area Major General Vinod Nayanar.

HNLC area commander Bajop Dympep, who was active with the militant outfit, was operating at Dawki area, bordering the Indo-Bangla border of Jaintia Hills district.

Dympep was also instrumental in guiding the HNLC ultras to crisscross the Indo-Bangla border and transferring the extortion money to HNLC leaders camping in Bangladesh, Army officials told UNI here.

'' Doors of the Indian Army are open for all the guerrillas, who are ready to join the national mainstream. They will be provided with security and other benefits under government's surrender policy benefits, '' the official asserted.

Meanwhile, the surrendered ultra will be handed over to the state police for interrogation.
