CPI(M) welcomes Ordinance on no confidence motion
Chennai, Oct 8 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tamil Nadu unit today welcomed the state government's Ordinance on removal of Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the urban local bodies through no confidence motion.
CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan, in a statement here, said when the democratic right of no confidence motion was misused, the state government had rightly issued the Ordinance that no confidence motions should be supported by at least 80 per cent of the councillors.
He said the Ordinance, though belated, was necessary when the democratic right was misused.
The government, at the same time, should ensure that there were no irregularities in the local bodies, he added.
