Child labour will be abolished within 6 years: Setiya

Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) Central Advisory Board on Child Labour Vice Chairperson Jyoti Setiya stated here today that the Board intends to end child labour in the country within six years.

Speaking to media persons about the 11th plan of the Board, Ms Setiya appealed to filmstars, cricketers and media to create awareness regarding the sensitive issue of child labour. She pointed out that India has the highest number of child labour.

She said that under the plan, children under the age of 14 and working as labourers in different places or those found begging would be identified. The children will be educated and their parents provided financial support to start some small business.

She blamed the high number of child labour in the country on over population and illiteracy. she said that children are the future of the country and it is the duty of every citizen to report on child labour cases.
