Charas worth Rs 1.25 cr seized, Nepali held

Lucknow, Oct 8 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police today busted an international smuggling syndicate in Bahraich district and arrested a Nepali national. 'Charas' estimated at Rs 1.25 crore in the international market, was found in his possession.

Acting on a tip-off about his presence in the jungles of Moortia, cops cardoned off the area and swooped down on Durga Pun of Nepal.

A total of 138 kg charas was recovered from his possession.

On interrogation, the accused confessed that he had brought the consignment for a trader in Kanpur, who was supposed to carry it to Mumbai.

The arrested disclosed that last month, he had smuggled one quintal 'charas' to Sri Lanka for which payment was made in dollars.

Later, the Kotwali police registered a case against the accused under NDPS ACT.

Meanwhile, the STF team was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for the big arrest.
