Hyderabad, Oct 7 (UNI) Congress Working Commiteee (CWC) Member and Member of Parliament Vundavilli Arunkumar today alleged the officials had no commitment in implementing the Right to Information Act (RTI) passed by the Union Government for the benefit of the common people.

Participating in the Meet-the-Press Programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists here, he said the Centre had introduced the Act to provide every bit of information on the functioning of the government to the people.

Though it was the right decision by the government, it was not being implemented properly due to lack of commitment on the part of officials as they ''had no practice of providing information asked for by the people,'' Mr Arunkumar said.

There was a need to raise awareness among the people about the Act and the media should play a prominent role in this direction, he added.
