Action on KCP unit for 'polluting' water

Machilipatnam, Oct 7 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board and the State Environmental Department will take stern action against the K C P Sugars Limited, Vuyyoru for allegedly violating pollution control norms, a senior official said.

Talking to UNI here today, Environmental Board Senior Task Force Engineer M Siva Reddy said a Task Force Team which raided the unit late last night found it was discharging effluents into the Pulleru Irrigation Canal polluting the water severely.

Residents of numerous villages downstream were affected by several diseases and agricultural lands and fish species hit.

The management had stopped operating the unit voluntarily since yesterday. He also said six industries were shut for not meeting pollution control norms.
