Suspected lynching in Lonavala

Lonavala, Maharashtra, Oct 6 (UNI) Five people all working as 'coolies' at the Lonavala Railway Station were found dead this morning in the vegetable market at Lonavala while four others were injured in a suspected case of lynching.

The five labourers were found dead on hand carts. Four others who were injured were rushed to a hospital of whom two have been brought to Pune's Sassoon Hospital, Lanavala Police Control told UNI.

The cause of the death and the reasons leading to the incident were yet to be ascertained police said adding that most of them came from outstation like Bijapur, Andhra Pradesh and were alchoholics. 'These labourers are in the habit of working during the day and then drinking at night. We are waiting for a statement from the injured and will take it only after their condition improves'', police said.

Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, Vishwas Nangre-Patil has rushed to Lonavala this morning.
