Heavy rains inundate low-lying areas in Vizag

Heavy
rains
that
lashed
the
city
from
October

have
inundated
several
low-lying
areas.
Official sources today said over 6500 houses were damaged in the district and the damage was estimated at Rs 27 lakh.
The worst-hit places in the city were Gnanapuram and Sebastian Colony.
The district administration had opened 11 relief camps for the affected people.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who was scheduled to attend an official function here, had postponed the visit.
Meanwhile, all flights from Visakhapatnam airport were cancelled due to heavy rains.
Airport officials said the runways were inundated and efforts were on to clear the water.
The services would remain cancelled tomorrow, if the rain continued, the officials added.
