Traders observe bandh against tax hike

Vijayawada, Oct 5 (UNI) A trade bandh called by Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Taxpayers' Assocation in protest against a GO by the state government hiking the property tax, was total in the city.

All business establishments were closed, and noon shows suspended by theatre owners, on an appeal by Chamber of Commerce President Gaddam Subba Rao.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), CPI and CPI(M) expressed their support to the bandh.

The party leaders said the tax hike would be more than 150 per cent and the proposal would impose an additional burden on the common man.
