RLD justifies action in police recruitment scam

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 5 (UNI) Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) national president and former union minister Ajit Singh today justified the action of the Mayawati government in the alleged police recruitment scam in Uttar Pradesh.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Singh claimed that RLD -- which was the major ally partner of the previous Samajwadi Party-led Mulayam Singh Yadav government in UP -- had registered its protest against the ''irregularities'' in the police selection process.

''However, the protest of RLD leaders in this regard was not taken note of and nothing was done,'' he lamented.

Mr Singh also disapproved ''casting aspersions'' on the character of women police recruits by the police recruitment scam probe committee.

However, he suggested that the state government should re-consider the annulment of Urdu teachers selections in UP, since their recruitment process was clean and the recruits had already undergone full training.

The RLD chief further lambasted the Mayawati government for the ''rising'' crime and corruption graphs in UP.

Meanwhile, he reiterated his stand on the need for smaller states for ushering in speedy development in the country.
