No nominations yet for Mormugao BY POLL

Panaji, Oct 5 (UNI) No papers were filed for the October 30 by-election to the Mormugao parliamentary constitutuency in south Goa on the first day of filing of nominations today.

South Goa Collector G P Naik, who is also the returning officer at Margao, said the last date for filing nominations was october 12.

Scrutiny will be held on October 13 and withdrawals will be allowed till October 15.

The by-election had been necessitated due to resignation of then Congress rebel MP Churchill Alemao in May as he decided to enter state politics by successfully contesting from Navelim assembly segment in the June 2 polls.

He joined Digambar Kamat-led government as the PWD Minister.
