LeT top commander killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 5 (UNI) A top commander of Pakistan based Lashker-e- Toiba (LeT) was killed by the security forces in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nitish Kumar said troops of 62 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation following a tip off about the presence of top militants in village Chitragam of Pulwama district, this morning.

He said during the operation, an encounter erupted in which a militant was killed.

The slain militant was identified as Abu Furkan, a resident of Pakistan and the self-styled District Commander (DC) of LeT outfit.

Furkan, a wanted militant, was appointed DC last week after the death of Abu Hai Rather, the SSP added.
