Ferozepur leads in paddy procurement in Punjab

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) The border district of Ferozepur with 5,45,586 tonnes was leading in the procurement of paddy in Punjab.

Of the 2.6 million tonnes procured by government agencies and private traders till yesterday evening, Tarn Taran, another border district with 1,96,610 tonnes was behind Ferozepur. Muktsar district was in third position with 1,71,976 tonnes.

According to official figures avaliable today, the government agencies had procured 14,62,720 tonnes of paddy which was 70.8 per cent of the total purchase. The private traders had accounted for 6,01,847 tonnes (29.2%).

Of the state procurement agencies, Pungrain had procured 2,90,753 tonnes ( 19.9%), Markfed 3,29,149 tonnes (22.5%), Punsup 3,90,826 tonnes (26.7%) , PSWC 2,54,284 tonnes (17.4%) and PAIC 76,787 tonnes (12.1%).

The Central Government agency, FCI had procured just 20,921 tonnes, which was a mere 1.4 per cent of the total purchase by agencies.
