E9 Countries Conference on ICT for Literacy concludes

Bangalore, Oct 5 (UNI) E9 Countries Conference on Information and Communication and Technology (ICT) for Literacy concluded here today with a call for exchange and promotion of ICT ideas.

The representatives from Indonesia, Egypt, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Pakistan, Mexico, besides India passed a resolution for encouraging exchange visits for study of innovations and best practices in the E9 Countries.

The use of school infrastructure for adult literacy was another important recommendation of the Conference and it was unanimously agreed to forge public-private partnership on ICT, as it was increasingly felt Government efforts need to be supplemented.

Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development Arjun Singh, in his Valedictory address, said there was an urgent need to think out of the box, since ICT was not just a computer-based literacy as spelt out in the discussions.

The Minister hoped that the recommendations of the Conference would provide a road map for the future and would be followed by the respective countries.
