CII conducts 'Health Insurance Summit 2007'

Mumbai, Oct 5 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) held a one-day 'Health Insurance Summit 2007' to focus on the growth, challenges and possible alternatives in the health insurance industry.

Speakers at the summit included Planning Commission member Syeda Hameed, Johnson&Johnson Medical Asia Pacific Executive Director Ashoke Bhattacharjya, ICICI Lombard General Insurance MD and CEO Sandeep Bakhshi among others.

The summit included sessions on how to establish an ''Insurance Framework'' - grievance redressals, standardisation of healthcare system, ''Challenges for health insurance development'', '' Enablers of health insurance'' and a round table discussion on ''Defining the way Forward.'' Health insurance in the country is limited to a small proportion of the population in the organised sector, mostly through their employees. twenty-six per cent of the country's population still lives below the poverty line.
