Another woman commit suicide during holy Ramzan, no impact of fatwa

Srinagar, Oct 5 (UNI) Yet another woman in the Kashmir valley commit suicide during the holy month of Ramzan despite a fatwa by the Muslim scholars, describing it an unislamic act.

Official sources said a 26-year-old Wazira Begum consumed some poisonous substance in her home at Bugam, Kulgam, in south Kashmir.

She was immediately rushed to hospital where she died.

About half a dozen people, mostly women, commit suicide in the Kashmir valley during the holy month, despite fatwa by the Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Bashir udddin and other muslim ulemas against the act.

They said the act was against the teachings of Islam and Prophet Mohammad.

The Kashmir valley witnessed sudden increase in suicides by the people, mostly women in the recent past.

Officials said family dispute and other domestic reasons besides failure in love are the main reasons for committing suicide.

The trend has also witnessed sharp increase among the security forces despite the introduction of 'Art of Living' and Yoga to help them come out of stress.
