16 killed in militant attacks in Manipur in past 72 hours

Imphal, Oct 5 (UNI) Armed millitants shot dead two people near Wangoi police station here today taking the toll in militant attacks to 16 in the last 72 hours.

Police said the bullet-ridden bodies had not been indentified yet and investigation was on to nab the culprits.

Meanwhile, security forces had been maintaining a strict vigil in view of the attacks launched by militants in the state during the last few days.

On October second, an Assam Rifles jawan was shot dead by some cadres of a proscribed outfit and in yet another ambush laid by People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) yesterday, six people were killed.

Police said three suspected PREPAK cadres were also killed in the ambush yesterday at Lamshang here.
