'Army devoted to democratic process in Nepal'

Kathmandu, Oct 4: Nepal Army chief Gen Rookmangud Katawal has directed soldiers to remain committed to the democratic process in the country and safeguarding human rights.

Gen Katawal's statement assumes significance in the wake of the Maoists threatening to disrupt the Constituent Assembly polls scheduled to be held on November 22.

He urged the entire rank and file of the Army to remain cautious over ''conspiracies being hatched by unruly elements'' against the army and Nepali people.

''The unruly forces, who do not want to see the peace and prosperity of the Nepali people, were conspiring to alienate the Nepali Army and other democratic forces in the country to fulfill their vested interests,'' Kantipur quoted General Katwal as saying while speaking at a programme of Nepal Army Academy in Nagarkot.
