SHRC calls for inquiry into IISc student's suicide

Bangalore, Oct 3 (UNI) Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought an inquiry into the alleged suicide by Indian Institute of Sciences research scholar Ajay Shree Choudhry on August 27 last, its Chairman Mr Justice S R Nayak said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the 21-year-old native of Andhra Pradesh, a Scheduled Caste and doing research in Biological Sciences, had allegedly committed suicide at the IISc hostel.

Ajay's father had alleged that he was forced to commit suicide following the harassment meted out by an IISc Professor, who was also his guide.

Mr Justice Nayak said based on media reports, the Commission had taken cognisance of the incident and written a letter to the State Home Secretary, seeking investigation into the incident and completion of probe within a month.
