Minister denies reports of meningitis outbreak

Chennai, Oct 3 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran today denied reports of outbreak of meningitis in the state.

Talking to newspersons at the Secretariat here, he said those admitted to various hospitals had been suffering from fever due to change in weather conditions and not due to meningitis as reported in a section of the media.

Mr Ramachandran said till date, around 40 persons were being treated for fever.

Pointing out that people getting sick and suffering from fever was normal, he said about 17,000 people were staying in medical college hospital and students' hostel.

''Orders have been issued to maintain hospitals and hostels hygienically. Additional funds have been allocated for this purpose,'' he added.
