Shimla, Oct 3 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbahdra Singh said that the Indian Institute Technology (IIT) would be set up at Mandi and Central University at Kangra.

''The state proposes to set up an IIT in Mandi district and the Central University in Kangra district of the state,'' he told reporters here on the sidelines on the occasion of the launch of the Aam Adami Bima Yojna yesterday.

The setting up of these two institutions in the state would help in making it a ''knowledge hub'' of the country, he said.

Mr P Chidambaram, who was here in place of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said that the Prime Minister has asked me to let the people of the state know that the centre would set up a central university, open a new IIT institute and take the Bhanupali-Bilaspur rail track as a time bound project.
