Kohima, Oct 3 (UNI) Assam Rifles(AR) troops and Nagaland police have arrested eight National Socialist Council of Nagaland(NSCN-K) cadres from Project Colony at Zunheboto town in Nagaland.

Official sources here today said following a tip-off that NSCN(K) cadres had gathered in the area, the security forces and police launched an operation and apprehended eight of the ultras yesterday.

Two AK series rifles, one SLR and one .303 rifle were also seized from their possession, police said.

The ultras were hiding in the house of a self-styled major Shikaho Sumi, who had reportedly defected to NSCN-IM recently.

The NSCN(K) cadres were trying to use the house as the office of the Cease Fire Supervisory Board(CFSB) without approval of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group(CFMG).

Meanwhile, security forces were patrolling the area to prevent any unauthorised concentration of the factions in the town.

The AR also expressed concern over the unauthorised presence of NSCN-IM cadres at Sakhalu area as it was not a designated camp and could be a threat to the peace of the area.

The CFMG chairman appealed to the NSCN-IM to leave Sakhalu to maintain the peace in the area.

A meeting, comprising AR representatives, civil administration, police, NGOs and tribal bodies, held at Zunheboto on October 1, decided that cadres of both the factions of the NSCN be instructed to leave the unauthorised areas and move to their designated camps.
