Dr Kalam stresses on national prosperity index

Indore, Oct 3: Renowned scientist and former President A P J Abdul Kalam today stressed on formation of a national prosperity index.

Delivering the Foundation Day Lecture on Creative Leadership at the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIMI), India's 'Missile Man' said, ''Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is not an indicator of the country's true position. The present situation does not match the nine per cent GDP. My definition of national prosperity index is equal to GDP plus quality of life of those living Below Poverty Line.'' Dr Kalam felt that India needed a large number of skillful managers to get rid of poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition and inequality.

The IIMI was registered as a society on October 3, 1996. Ever since its inception, the Institute made great strides in area of management education, training, research and consultancy.

Apart from its flagship programme -- a two-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Management -- the Institute offers the Executive Post-Graduate Programme in Management, Broadband-Based Executive Education Programme, Certificate Course in Business Management for Defence Officers, Management Development Programmes and in-company programmes.

In order to promote advanced research in management, the IIMI in 2006 launched a Fellow Programme in Management, a unique doctoral programme in this field.

Besides, the institute is also starting a Post-Doctoral Programme from the next academic session. It is planning to start a Broadband-based Post-Graduate Executive Programme in Retail Management and Family-Owned Business and Entrepreneurship soon.
