69 sent to simple imprisonment for drunk driving

Mumbai, Oct 3 (UNI) More than 180 cases of drunk driving have been produced before various metropolitan magistrates across the city and 69 offenders have been sent for simple imprisonment (SI) so far.

The traffic police sources said here today that during the night of October one, police registered 182 cases of drunk driving in the metropolis.

The court sentenced 69 offenders to SI while others were let free after paying a penalty. All the offenders were booked under section 85 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Since January one till today, the traffic police have registered 7,475 cases of drunk driving and recovered a fine exceeding Rs one crore from the offenders, sources added.
