Six arrested for TN bandh clash

Tiruvarur, Oct 2 (UNI) Police today arrested six people at Mannargudi in this district in connection with a clash between the DMK and AIADMK workers during the statewide bandh observed by the Democratic Progressive Alliance(DPA) yesterday.

Those arrested include R Kamaraj, AIADMK, District Secretary and former Rajya Sabha member.

The trouble broke out when AIADMK volunteers burst crackers to celebrate the Supreme Court observation, condemning the DMK Government for observing bandh to press for the early implementation of the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project(SSCP). Taking objection to this, DMK volunteers pelted stones at them, forcing the police to burst teargas shells to disperse the clashing groups.
