Lashker militant arrested in North Kashmir

Srinagar , Oct 2 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a militant of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) along with arms and ammunition in north Kashmir last evening.

A police spokesman said acting on a specific information, police apprehended a LeT militant identified as Abdul Majeed Sofi from the Narva area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district last evening.

Three hand grenades, 15 rounds of AK 47 and ammunition were recovered from his possession.

Earlier during the day yesterday police arrested a militant Shaheen at Shalteang along with two AK rifles, one wireless set, seven grenades, two pouches and maps about Line of Control and infiltration tracks.

The spokesman said the militant, resident of Theed, Harwan, during the questioning admitted that he was given the task to transport the arms and ammunition to city from Dangerpora, Sopore, in Baramulla district.

The consignment was to carry out suicide attack in the city, the militant told the police.

Spokesman said with the arrest of militant they had averted a major tragedy.
