Gandhi Jayanti celebrated in Dubai
Dubai, Oct 2 (UNI) The Consulate General of India(CGI) here organised a function today in India High School to celebrate the 138th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, which is being observed as the International Day of Peace and Non-Violence across the world.
The event was inaugurated by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed, and attended by Consul Generals of China, Japan, South Africa, Britain and other dignitaries from different walks of life.
While inaugurating the function, Mr Ahamed said, ''The ideals and values espoused by Mahatma Gandhi guide us all like a beacon of light in our collective struggle against the problems of hunger and poverty, which continue to plague humanity; to build a just and equitable world where people live with dignity and in peace and harmony with each other in diverse and pluralistic societies.'' He further added that the world will continue to be guided by Gandhian principles of truth and non-violence and that the young citizens of the world will draw inspiration from the Mahatma.
