Jaipur, Oct 2 (UNI)Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Minister Ramswaroop Meena today urged the Vasundhara Raje Government to disband the three-member Chopra Committee constituted by it for examining the Gujjar community'S demand for ST status.

Addressing the Adivasi Vikas Parishad national meet here, Mr Meena said the Chief Minister was responsible for ''undue'' raking up of the Gujjars' demand.

Mr Meena said that it was Ms Raje who during the BJP's electioneering for the last assembly election in Rajasthan had committed Gujjars for grant of ST status to their community if the community voted her party into the power.

He said that now the chief minister had taken an undue approach in favour of the Gujjar community just to keep her ''undue commitment''.

He said neither the Chopra Committee was supposed to hear the plea from a non tribal group(Gujjars) for inclusion in the ST list nor the state government was supposed to make recommendation in favour of a non-tribal group.

''Therefore, the Chopra Committee should be disbanded with immediate effect,'' Mr Meena demanded.
